Changing the Message

Although the book is obviously vastly different from the movie, the main plots of a few stories are still present in the movie. However, instead of all nine stories, we see only a few moments that relate back to the book. Sunny is dealing with the contradictions stated in the laws. Currently the humans view Sunny as a threat and a murder but he has a secret, which stems from the gray areas involved in the Three Laws of Robotics, mirroring the problems Speedy faced in the book. Sunny seems to have lost his sense of self after losing Dr. Lanning, mirroring the problem in “Little Lost Robot.” I also think that Dr. Calvin in the movie has a lot less emotion than the Dr. Calvin in the book. The book Susan Calvin destroyed a robot simply for hurting her feelings yet the movie Susan Calvin seems to completely lack any emotion. In other words, the movie Susan Calvin is much more of a scientist than a robopsychologist. These differences change the message that the book was attempting to convey, making the movie devalue the book.
